DESIGN FINDS

She is a little rough around the edges, but is FULL of POTENTIAL. This design find was $6.00 at a local consignment sale. I love the form of this chair! The floral pattern makes it interesting but I will turn it into a modern more subdued patterned chair, minus the lilac and neon greens.

Tip- If your looking for cheap, cheap, deals, never go the first day to a consignment sale, prices will significantly drop a day or so before the sale ends.

83' Baby

Well folks its the time of year again, a little day called Halloween, aka dress like a goof and get away with it. I was tipped off by a co-worker that there was quite the dress at the local Salvation Army, thus birthed the idea of '83 Prom Queen. While excitingly shopping, the hub snubbed out two 80's Alabama tour jackets. One for himself and one for a friend who is married to my friend. I called her and she managed to snag a vintage looking Madonna dress and played the, "Prom Queen Runner Up." I also found a pair of blue vintage matching earrings. My Memaw, the "craft queen", found two bath back scrubbers, at the local Dollar Tree sewed them for me. She also helped me tediously glue each individual bead, lining the sash. She broke out some 1990's puff paint and we went to town.(Thanks for all the help Memaw, it was a blast!) For a good two hours I worked very hard on getting together old silk flower and making a grotesque corsage. I busted out the back comb, hair spray, and styled my hot hair do. All in all in it was a good night but I want to punch someone in the kidney for thinking sequence under the armpits was ever a good idea. More pics to come!!

Break me off a piece of that, "Golden Ticket !"

I read this on Yahoo News today and couldn't believe it! Forget about, "The Chocolate Factory," this ticket is going to the moon!

PARIS (Reuters) - A French air hostess will become one of Europe's pioneer space tourists after picking a chocolate wrapper out of the rubbish and finding a winning number in a competition to fly to the upper reaches of the earth's atmosphere.

Mathilde Epron, 32, said she had bought a Kit Kat chocolate bar at her local supermarket but initially threw the wrapper in the bin, telling herself that "it's only others who win."

Two hours later, thinking back to the competition, she decided to try her luck and fished the wrapper out of the bin, only to find a code marked inside.

"For someone who works in air travel it's really a dream come true," she told France Info radio.

A spokeswoman for Nestle in France confirmed that Epron had won the prize to take a flight on a four-seater, fighter-sized aircraft built by Rocketplane, a company that builds aircraft intended to provide cheap flights into space.

She will receive four days of astronaut training in Oklahoma City in the United States before boarding the Rocketplane XP aircraft which will reach an altitude of 100 km (60 miles) and allow a five-minute experience of weightlessness.

This is incredible, the best thing I have ever gotten from a candy bar wrapper, is a candy bar. As frequent as this type of travel is becoming I sometimes wonder... is space going to be the new Disney World?

Solar Powered Radio's for the poverty stricken country of Africa

Check out the video and the link below to learn more! Check out this video: Freeplay Radio

Add to My Profile | More Videos

Randomly today, I stumbled across this video of Tom Hanks standing in front of these crazy looking radios. I think this is a really interesting concept, free information from a device that is environmentally friendly. I looked into this and the company Freeplay really thinks outside of the box. It's genius! What better gift then a solar powered radio for people who live in poverty? These are people who don't have access to vital and educational information, and who don't have the money to buy batteries.

Four Facts from Freeplay...

Fact 1: Nearly 2 billion people in the world, approximately 35% of the global population, still do not have electricity. Sub-Saharan Africa, with a population of about 350 million people, has the lowest levels of electrification in the world, where 9 out of 10 people do not have electricity.

Fact 2: Energy and poverty are linked. The areas in the world with the high levels of poverty also have the lowest levels of modern energy consumption. For example, per capita consumption of modern energy in sub-Saharan Africa, where more than half of the population lives below the poverty line, is a staggering 20 times lower than the global average.

Fact 3: Batteries are one solution, but batteries are costly. People in least developed countries on average spend 6% of their income on batteries ($24/year) – if people in developed countries were to spend the same that would amount to $2331/year!

Fact 4: To break the poverty cycle, people must have unlimited and inexpensive access to information, access to education, access to light wherever and whenever they need it.

Interesting Facts

I always love reading these sorts of things; I thought you might like them too. Pardon my useless commentary…

Interesting Facts

Right-handed people live, on average, nine years
longer than left-handed people do.

(Not surprising, they probably just give up on life because everything in this world is made for right-handed people.)

The flea can jump 350 times its body length which would be equivalent to a human jumping the length of a football field.

A cockroach will live nine days without its head, before it starves to death.

(I think I just threw up a little. But come on people, those things can survive an atomic bomb; of course they can live without a head.)

American Airlines saved $40,000 in 1987 by eliminating 1 olive from each salad served in first-class.

(That's fine, but don’t mess with my Sun Chips in Coach.)

(lovely...gag)

It is possible to lead a cow upstairs...but not downstairs.

(So, was the stranded cow really stranded?) Side note: I almost cried that it closed.

The reason firehouses have circular stairways is from the days when the engines were pulled by horses. The horses were stabled on the ground floor and figured out how to walk up straight staircases.

On average, 100 people choke to death on ball-point pens every year.

(Note to self.)

On average people fear spiders more than they do death.

(But Mary Mack paid fifty-cents to see the elephant jump the fence, fence, fence. What a rip off…)

Only one person in two billion will live to be 116 or older.

Women blink nearly twice as much as men.

(I noticed, have you seen me on YouTube?)

The Main Library at Indiana University sinks over an inch every year because when it was built, engineers failed to take into account the weight of all the books that would occupy the building.

(That’s a Hoosier for you,love you Dana).

Our eyes are always the same size from birth, but our nose and ears never stop growing.

(I have read this one several times before, but I absolutely refuse to except it!)

The electric chair was invented by a dentist.

Coffee and Computers don't mix

Have you ever had those weeks or months for that matter where every thing seems to be going crazy? Picture it, I am enjoying a freshly brewed cup of coffee that is made up primarily of cream and sugar. I am on a call on my cell phone and my work phone starts to ring. As I hang up the work phone I go to grab the cell and my hand hits the coffee in such away that it flys into the air and comes down as a giant coffee fountain. When I contacted the computer dude about my tragedy this was his email back to me,

"Stephanie,
You need to stop using this computer immediately if you haven't already. Did you have cream or sugar in your coffee? It's worse if you did. The sugar can actually eat through circuits and components."

That sounded scary...considering I was guilty on both counts.

Life is like the Hokey Pokey.

You put your right foot in, you put your right foot out, you put your right foot in and you shake it all about. You do the hokey pokey and you turn your self around, that's what it's all about. For some unknown reason I thought of this anology today. Into my twenties it seems like I have been trying to figure out my purpose. In the midst of it, Iv'e pondered the idea that maybe the search is the purpose. You put your whole self in, you put your whole self out you do this thing called life, that's what its all about.

Maybe, just maybe, if we put our whole selves into finding our purpose we will.

Yours truly,

Stephanie

May God be with them.

I know my blogs are usually light hearted but this struck a chord with me. Due to recent attacks in Kenya, the founders of a wonderful organization known as Project Aids Orphans are in Grave Danger.

I know how easy it is to shuffle these types of things aside, but we have to pop the bubble that we surround ourselves with and forget the phrase "Out of sight, out of mind."

Pray for the people of Kenya as they face these horrific events.

Click here to read more about it where my friend and fellow blogger, explains the situation. http://bizzyblogging.blogspot.com

Holiday's and Rulebreaking

January is flying by! I had a wonderful Holiday/Christmas/New year's. Every year my husband and I swear not to buy anything for one another. Of course like every year he breaks the rules and me being the stickler that I am, I don't. Then I feel like an asterisk(*side note-I put the symbol b/c that word is almost unrecognizable.

So this year, since Craig had a little time off at New Year's I thought I would surprise him with a trip to Chicago to ring in the New Year. We went a few years ago and absolutely loved it! After he gave me my presents;perfume, white stiletto's,and a hot pink adorable sock hat,(the ones with the strings and the ball on the top.) I kept telling him that I had a present for him and he kept saying, "Baby, it's really o.k. that you didn't get me anything, we weren't supposed to anyway." I, of course laughing on the inside wanted to shout, WERE GOING TO CHICAGO AND YOU ARE CLUELESS! I edited some pics/video and did a little movie of us and all the places we have been this year. Then I put it to our favorite song and at the end it says, lets spend New Year's in a place we both love and he was FLOORED! For those who have just gagged, I apologize.

I really felt lucky the last month or so...or I guess "appreciative," would be the better term.

Yours Truly,
Stephanie
